'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf رضي الله عنه
The Last Journey
'Abd al-Rahman died in Madinah around the age of seventy-two. The date is given as 31 or 32 AH. 'Uthman is reported to have led the funeral prayer, and he was buried at al-Baqi'.
He left a great estate and many gifts. Among his bequests, according to the biographers, he assigned a large sum to the surviving Badr veterans, and a garden for the Mothers of the Believers. Some of the Mothers prayed for him, and 'A'ishah is reported to have said, "May Allah quench his thirst from the spring of Salsabil."
The Prophet ﷺ had spoken well of those who looked after his family after him, and the biographers saw 'Abd al-Rahman's care for the Mothers of the Believers in that light. In his last illness he is reported to have wept, saying that he feared the wealth he had left would make his reckoning harder.
A rich person is judged not by what he owns but by what he released.
What would you want people to say about your wealth when you are gone?
