Khalid ibn al-Walid رضي الله عنه
The Road to Islam
After the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, Khalid's thinking began to change. His brother al-Walid had become a Muslim, and the Prophet ﷺ had asked after Khalid, saying that a man of his intelligence could not remain ignorant of Islam and that, were he to use his gift for the Muslims, it would be better for him.
Khalid later said that when these words reached him, Islam took hold of his heart. He left Makkah toward Madinah, and on the way met 'Amr ibn al-'As and 'Uthman ibn Talhah, who were going for the same reason. The three arrived together and pledged allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet ﷺ welcomed them, and asked Allah to forgive Khalid for what he had done before. He did not turn him away over Uhud; the past was forgiven in Islam.
The door of Islam wipes out what came before, and the Prophet ﷺ taught his Companions to let it.
