Safinah رضي الله عنه
The Lion
A well-known report says that Safinah was once cut off from the army, or shipwrecked, in Byzantine lands. Looking for the way back, he met a lion. He said to it: "O Abu al-Harith, I am the freedman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ," and told it what had happened to him.
According to the report, the lion came to his side and walked with him until it had brought him to the road, then turned away.
Whether or not every detail is established, the story shows how the early Muslims saw the honour of having served the Prophet ﷺ.
